Satisfied customers know that the AbilityOne Program offers an array of quality products made by people who are blind or have other severe disabilities. But many are surprised to learn that AbilityOne also offers a wide range of services to meet the needs of its federal customers. In fact, the AbilityOne Program can provide your agency with almost any level of service and can work with you to develop a statement of work that meets your unique requirements. AbilityOne solutions offer customers streamlined acquisitions and cost savings, while providing employment opportunities for people who are blind or have severe disabilities.

Administrative Services

Our associated nonprofit agencies are experienced in the latest technologies and software and provide a variety of options to meet the needs of our federal customers. Administrative services offerings include reception, data entry, programming, technical support, word processing, microfilming and imaging.

Brailing of Publications

One of the unique services we provide to government customers is the conversion of documents to the Braille format and production of multiple copies.

Business Card Printing

The AbilityOne Program allows for either uniformed or customized business cards produced for your agency quickly and accurately. A wide variety of templates are available using official Seals and Logos. Online ordering 24 hours a day, 7 days a week is available too for agencies that qualify.

Call Center Operation

We provide a holistic approach to customer service tailored to meet the strategic and operational customer relationship management needs of our federal customers. Our relationships with industry leaders in information technology services allow us to handle our customers’ needs in a variety of ways. This includes contact center services, Help Desk expertise and switchboard operation activities. In Battle Creek, Michigan, at the Defense Logistics Agency’s Customer Call Center, people with severe disabilities are the first in line to answer all phone inquiries.

Commercial/Central Facilities Management

At the USDA Beltsville Campus in Maryland, an AbilityOne agency handles the facility management, operations and maintenance (O & M) for the entire 45-acre complex, which houses 1,400 USDA employees. These responsibilities include managing janitorial services, interior landscaping, copier operation, mail/messenger and shipping/receiving services, as well as subcontracting and supervising other services to outside vendors.

Commissary Services

An estimated 3,000 people with severe disabilities perform commissary shelf stocking, warehousing and janitorial operations for the Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA).

Customization and Distribution of Promotional Items

Through AbilityOne, associated nonprofit agencies provide government agencies with customized promotional items. These include the embroidery of clothing, as well as adding text to writing instruments, coffee mugs and other items used to promote the government agency and its mission. Current customers include the Air Force Recruiting Service, the US Navy, ATF and US Geological Survey. Advances in adaptive technology have made jobs utilizing computers and telephones easily accessible to those who are blind or have other severe disabilities

Digital Data Scan® Document Conversion Services

Digital Data Scan®, a program provided by National Industries for the Blind through its associated agencies, provides high-quality document imaging services while fulfilling its mission to create meaningful employment for Americans who are blind or visually impaired. Competitively priced services performed by our skilled workforce include document preparation, reassembly and destruction, document scanning, document indexing, and secure document management solutions. Our document management and imaging services are customized to meet the specific needs and requirements of each customer and will help you turn your mission critical documents into organized, readily accessible digital information. Secure Mail/Digital Document Services

The Secure Mail/Digital Document Services Line of Business includes life cycle (“cradle to grave”) document/information services and customized solutions using plug and play options focused on customer choice.  This evolving Line of Business seeks to enhance, link and secure all aspects of mail center and document management operations and move beyond traditional mail service delivery to meet more advanced customer needs (e.g., strategic sourcing, consolidated mail center options, national contract delivery).  Traditional Mail Services include receipt, sorting, tracking, metering, transportation and final destination delivery of document parcels.  New services include high tech mail digitization, filing and indexing of electronic documents followed by secure destruction of originals.  Ancillary services of mail operations include warehousing, mass-mailing, fulfillment (products and customer reply), document/parcel preparation, copy/print services, employee locator systems and a host of related services to support consolidation/strategic sourcing objectives of government and commercial customers.

Secure Document Destruction

AbilityOne contracts are compliant with the procedures of the National Association of Information Destruction (NAID) and are AAA certified-- the highest security standard in the document destruction industry. Our secure document destruction services feature securely locked bins, regularly scheduled pick-up, GPS tracked trucks, bar-coded security bins scanned in and out, weighed bins, shred widths of 5/16”, co-mingling of paper sources to increase security, full background checks of all employees, on-going employee training, facilities equipped with security cameras and customer log-in capability to view document destruction in real time.

Both service and name tapes are embroidered for Air Force and US Coast Guard.

Fleet Management

Our approach involves partnering with fleet managers to enhance the fleet management capabilities of in-house staff, not replace them. This can entail everything from concept-to-completion asset management functions to providing support services such as vehicle washing or vehicle utilization tracking and reporting. Our services include vehicle maintenance and repair, shuttle services, vehicle acquisition, servicing, decommissioning and disposal, management and compliance reporting, motor pool operation, vehicle washing and detailing, vehicle fueling and fuel management, fleet management information systems, and parts management.

Food Services

We currently serve more than 25 million meals per year at more than 100 locations.  During the last decade, major food service awards (Ney, Hennessy, Local Command) and half of the U.S. Navy’s “5” Star accreditation awards for food services have been awarded to AbilityOne-operated facilities.  We combine our expertise in the commercial food industry with our thorough knowledge of DoD practices. Our services include dining hall customer support, kitchen and dining facility sanitation, equipment maintenance, ground meal support, catering, work statement drafting, budgetary support, and quality assurance management.

General Support Services

We provide a variety of general support services that are developed based on unique customer needs. Examples include an AbilityOne contract with the Government Printing Office, which involves duplicating 18 million classified copies of court records per year for the U.S. Department of Justice, and the processing of more than 700,000 applications for the Special Cuban Migration Program under with the Department of Justice.

Grounds Maintenance

From small satellite locations to complete base-wide projects encompassing thousands of acres, AbilityOne contractors are working in more than 175 locations.  Our services include full-scope grounds maintenance, landscape design, integrated pest management, fertilization, weed control, irrigation maintenance, flight line and airfield maintenance, turf renovations, parking lot maintenance, fence maintenance, design and installation of seasonal and specialized displays, interior plant and floral design, green waste management, recycling, slope management, and snow management. People with severe disabilities maintain the grounds of the Goddard Space Center in Maryland, the John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York, and many Army, Navy and Air Force bases across the country.

Janitorial/Custodial Services

For more than a quarter of a century, we have provided the government with outstanding custodial services. Our workers have helped more than 40 government agencies keep their facilities clean and maintained in nearly 1,000 locations.  AbilityOne employees clean 65 million square feet of government offices and millions of square feet at military installations every day.  We are thoroughly knowledgeable about sound environmental practices. AbilityOne capabilities include office cleaning, restroom sanitation and stocking, route cleaning for base-wide projects, and maintenance of special locations such as judges’ chambers and courtrooms, dining facilities, kitchens, day care centers and computer rooms.

Laundry Operations

Our associated nonprofit agencies manage large-scale laundry needs in more than 60 federal hospitals and military installations. We clean, press, fold, sort, pick-up and deliver on schedule more than 48 million pounds of laundry annually. Our services include laundering of apparel, dry cleaning, rough dry service, pressing of apparel, flat work service, linen distribution and exchange, uniform management, laundry and linen mending, I.D. marking of goods, customized invoicing reports, barcode tracking system, and inventory storage.

Mail Center Operations and Services

AbilityOne workers handle hundreds of thousands of pieces of mail every day as they work in more than 100 facilities nationwide. These contract employees possess extensive knowledge of postal processes and assist customers in creating the most efficient and cost-effective mailroom operation possible. Our services include full mailroom center operations, secure mail centers, multi-location pick-up and delivery, courier services, shipping, receiving, storing, receipt and processing of controlled packages, bar-coding, metering, web-based computer tracking, automated outbound mail, match mailing, mail merge, list maintenance, and warehouse and virtual computer-based fulfillment services.

Recycling Services

For years, AbilityOne associated nonprofit agencies have provided recycling operations at military bases and federal buildings across the country. AbilityOne employees recycle everything from aluminum, plastic and assorted paper products to used oil, CD-ROMs and toner cartridges. At Fort Drum, New York, an associated nonprofit agency has received the Army Blue Ribbon Contractor Award for recycling services for six years in a row.

Switchboard Services

Military and Veterans Affairs customers nationwide benefit from enhanced customer services and professional switchboard operations. These include duties such as basic switchboard operations for large campus settings, multiple alarm monitoring, police radio dispatching, pager distribution and paging services, campus information, database maintenance, base locator services, and publication/distribution of telephone directories. One large prime contract serves 11 Air Force bases for the Air Mobility Command. Our high level of customer service is recognized frequently by Air Force service personnel who note the exceptional service they receive in reaching their loved ones.

Transcription Services

At Veterans Affairs (VA) medical centers, physicians leave their dictations on a digital dictation platform provided by our nonprofit agencies. Transcriptionists turn the material into text files, which are then quality checked and uploaded directly into the VA patient records files. Other customers include the US Navy and the Air Force. Non-medical transcription services are also available and are currently being provided to customers such as the VA Central Office, the US Air Force and the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

Supply Chain Management

The AbilityOne Program offers customized supply chain solutions that include performance-based services.  Our Virtual Warehousing and Distribution Organization provides comprehensive warehousing, distribution and supply chain management services. We have a network of more than 100 providers that allows us to fulfill customer requirements anywhere in the United States. We leverage our core competencies and capabilities in providing tailored solutions for federal customers’ supply chain challenges.  Our warehousing service includes storage and inventory management, and our distribution service includes product recovery from the warehouse, packaging and shipment.
